Dalai Lama's Tips for a Healthy Life

I was lucky beyond words to get to see His Holiness the Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of the Tibetan Buddhists, speak for a few days in Louisville, KY, USA. During his talk, he offered some simple tips for reducing one’s stress level, returning to a more peaceful state of mind, and improving overall health: 1) Check your blood pressure. Is it too high? If so, look at the amount of stress in your life. If you are stressed, it can undoubtedly lead to higher blood pressure. Do whatever you can to reduce and eliminate your stress, and you will probably see a natural decline in your blood pressure. 2) Do compassion meditation thirty minutes a day, everyday, for three weeks. (I can personally attest to how well this works!) 3) Check your blood pressure again. After doing what you can to reduce stress and also doing your compassion meditations for thirty minutes a day each day for three weeks, check your blood pressure and stress levels again.
